Korean Day at Union Square in San Francisco, Jung SuWon Style

Our very own Jung SuWon Demo Team put on a performance today at the Korean Day celebration held at Union Square in San Francisco.

It was a very beautiful sunny day in The City and the Jung SuWon Demo Team performed outstanding, as they always do.

Here are some pictures that I took (our heroine is in the pink top).  This what we call The Bully Routine.  It shows a typical scene of a young girl hanging out, then being approached by some bad guys.  The girl doesn’t let her environment cause her fear, she takes charge and teaches them a lesson!

Great Grandmaster Dr. Tae Yun Kim teaches us that we have the power within us.  In our martial arts classes, we have discussions with our students about bullying.  Some students admit to being bullies, some students admit to being the victim of bullying.  Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s approach with the students is unique.  Instead of telling people “NO”, she will have an open discussion with them.  She asks why they are a bully, she asks if they think that is a good or bad thing to do.  For the students that are victims, she takes them through a similar thought process.  The idea being is that most children are so used to hearing what they should and shouldn’t be doing, rarely does anyone take the time to ask them what they are feeling, or other insightful questions, then work together to find a solution.

One of the messages of this routine is that a bully may feel like he or she is in power, but a time will come when someone will stand up to them and put them in their place.  Arrogance, power, force is not appropriate and definitely picking on someone smaller is no sign of strength.
